cora loves: katie & reegan // georgia backyard wedding

i have a weak spot for woodsy weddings & this one, shot by katie rivers photography, is exactly what i love. everything from katie’s gorgeous lace dress to the vintage decor touches to the adorable pictures in the meadow. it looks like something out of a taylor swift music video : ) they are just the cutest couple!

cora loves: tiara brouse photography

i had the pleasure of interviewing tiara, the gorgeous face behind tiara brouse photography based in ontario. she is such a sweet girl with amazing energy and passion for what she does. read what she has to say about her photography background & love for making people smile! and see her latest wedding shoot below the interview : )

how did you get into photography?

photography has always been a part of me, instilled by my father growing up. as an only child, parents divorced and living provinces away from each other, summer vacations were spent visiting my dad and taking pictures of our adventures. every year for christmas he would send me a photo album of our summer along with other images to update me on his life. i treasured these albums. i could go on with events that inspired me, from being a child rummaging through the tin boxes of photographs at my grandparents homes to living and exploring in france at 21 working as an au pair. it wasn’t until i was living in newfoundland that i was introduced to photography professionally. i was offered a job assisting a photographer in her studio. we became really great friends, she took me under wing and taught me everything she could. from the moment i met her i knew this was exactly what i wanted to do.

what are 3 things that inspire you?

– the need to create. i’ve always been very creative and imaginative. growing up as an only child, learning to entertain yourself is something i think just comes naturally.
– the beauty within all of us. i’m a portrait photographer, so meeting new people can be very inspiring! when i first meet someone i immediately begin thinking about how i would photograph them.
– i want to succeed. that’s something that drives me every day. photography is not just about taking pictures. i recently read a quote that said, “consider yourself a business person first who happens to be a photographer” -jerry ghionis. i love that! not many people go into photography realizing everything involved in running a photography business. less than a quarter of the time is spent actually taking pictures, the rest is paperwork and research.

what do you love about shooting weddings & engagements?

weddings are amazing because i get to photograph it all! the emotional ceremony, the intimate bride and groom portraits, fun with the bridal party, the spontaneity of the dance floor. there’s just so much going on all at once, i love that! the great thing about engagements, like weddings, is witnessing the passion two people have for each other. with the engagement session, we can get comfortable with each other and experience working together in advance. i think that’s key to great wedding images.

describe your dream wedding.

i think my dream wedding would be a destination one. some place with lots of character, but not on a resort. i always skip to what the images would look like… walking down a cobblestone street, very old stone buildings and interesting people in the background. yea, that sounds pretty dreamy to me.

what has been your favorite photography moment?

recently my boyfriend surprised me with tickets to see one of my all time favorite musicians, jonny lang. my boyfriend is quite notorious for surprises like this- i’m lucky to be so spoiled! so we’re at the concert, we have on “ok” view of the stage but we weren’t right up front or anything. i was getting some cool shots but they weren’t amazing, i was so absorbed in the music that i wasn’t thinking about the pictures. jonny just played his last song and the band is walking off the stage, we’re all shouting “ENCORE! ENCORE!” (concerts are so fun!). suddenly it sinks in that i didn’t even get a good picture… all the shouting must have worked because the band was coming back on & i knew this was my chance! i kissed my boyfriend and made a bee-line for the front of the stage!

here i am at the front, leaning up against the fence that separates the crowd from the stage. i make friends with the people around me, a photographer to my right and a jonny super-fan to my left. i told them my story about how i just had to sneak up and grab some shots before it was over.  now the photographer is helping me out and the super-fan is cheering me on, “shoot! shoot! shoot!”. jonny is up there singing the most beautiful version of “lie to me” i’ve ever heard! the crowd is totally blown away by his amazing guitar skills.  i’m shooting away and SO completely and utterly flabbergasted by everything that is going on around me (it was truly incredible!). the concert ends… i hug the super-fan and trade cards with the photographer. i find my boyfriend and give him a big running-jump-hug! i’m grinning from ear to ear, flicking through showing him the images on my camera and literally BURSTING with excited energy!

you can connect with tiara on facebook too and check out her awesome blog!

cora loves: murphy & christian // engagement

i’m originally from a really tiny town north of baltimore. and i mean REALLY tiny. think one traffic light, cornfields all around, and no chain restaurants. since it takes about 90 seconds to drive through “town” it isn’t exactly a hot spot for tourists. that being said, it is a gorgeous area full of rivers, farms and woods.

i mention that about my hometown because i came across an engagement session shot by natalie franke photography in monkton, md. so proud for the small-town MD representation : ) murphy & christian are an adorable couple and these shots really capture their love. my favorite is definitely the one in front of the barn where he’s holding her up. ahhhh so cute!

head to natalie franke’s website or like her on facebook!

cora loves: whimsical prints

when you start planning a wedding, your first thought probably isn’t about paper. but think about it. you need invitations, save the dates, place cards, seating charts, thank-yous… the list goes on and on and on! i personally am a sucker for pretty handmade paper products but i also know how busy everyone is these days. it’s tough to find time to workout or even cook a decent dinner in our hectic schedules, let alone sit down and craft hundreds of wedding invites. the solution? delegate the task out to a specialty shop who knows what they’re doing.

enter whimsical prints, a handmade stationary store based on etsy. they have some of the cutest designs & having one-of-a-kind paper products at your wedding would add another special touch!

you can check out their website or their etsy store : )

cora loves: camille & chad // bay creek wedding

keeping with the theme of beach weddings, here are some lovely pictures from the wedding of camille & chad taken by echard wheeler photography. held at the bay creek resort, the wedding was absolutely breathtaking. i love the color scheme and the use of the wish lanterns. the idea is that at the end of the reception, guests put wishes for the bride & groom in their lantern and send them off into the sky. that’s such a cute alternative to sparklers!

cora loves: brie & bryan // outer banks wedding

the outer banks is basically my second home & having just returned from our annual week long stay there, i’m having slight withdrawal (take me back!). so i’ve resorted to browsing obx wedding pictures instead : ) it’s almost as good as being there myself!

i came across this gorgeous set of pictures from Kristi Midgette Photography and fell in love. the setting is so beautiful and everything is simple but elegant. brie & bryan pulled off the beach wedding theme perfectly in duck, NC! check out these lovely photos below.

cora loves: meghan johnson photography

meet meghan johnson, a seattle girl turned photographer living in richmond . she is one of my older sister’s best friends & when i saw that she is starting her own photography business, i knew i had to interview her for cora lea loves. her pictures are gorgeous and, based on my conversations with her & all she has done for my sister, she is one of the sweetest girls! read what she has to say in our little interview:

p.s. this beautiful girl in the picture below is my amazing big sister : )

how did you get into photography?

i have loved photography from an early age.  i had a blue fisher price camera when i was young before i moved on to a point and shoot.  i always was the one taking pictures of my family and when i turned 18 i got my first DSLR.  i continued to take pictures throughout college and became known for being the one to always take pictures of what we were doing.  i always thought it was just a hobby but realized recently that i have always wanted to take pictures full time.  i’ve taught myself to shoot in manual and am working to establish a business.

what are 3 things that inspire you?

i’m inspired by other photographers, family and friends, & the joy i get from people loving the photos i take of them.  jasmine star and katelyn james are two wedding photographers that i admire and aspire to be like.  they have both built incredible businesses and i have learned so much in reading their blogs.  my family and friends are so supportive and their encouragement and praise has helped me to be confident in my photos.  they also are great to use as models.  lastly, i’m always trying to learn and get better and i get inspired to keep going when people like my photos and are happy with the pictures i take of them.

what do you love about shooting weddings & engagements?

i think the best thing about wedding and engagement photography is the ability to capture a couple’s emotions at the most important stage of their lives so far.  it is so fun and inspiring to be around people in the happiest time of their lives.  i hope to focus on weddings and engagements more in the future.

describe your dream wedding.

i’m not someone who has planned out her wedding from the time i was young.  i dream about how special it will be to be surrounded by all the people most important to me at once and how exciting it will be to find the man i want to spend the rest of my life with.

what has been your favorite photography moment?

my favorite session that i’ve done was when i shot 3 of my friends about to graduate from college.  it was a time that was so exciting for them and i had so much fun getting to capture them in their last weeks together.

check out her work at her website & like her on facebook!

cora loves: olympic theme party

i love the olympics as much as anyone but oh my goodness it can be overwhelming. so many sports and competitions and finals and semi-finals and athletes and events… AHHHH. i always feel like i’m going to miss some history-making thing when i’m not watching so i try to watch every night. although that is very difficult when you have no cable and the house wi-fi loses signal about every ten minutes. but still, i do love watching most of the events especially gymnastics and swimming (for completely different reasons i might add. ryan lochte is pretty yummy! : )

one of the best things about the olympics is that, unlike during the NFL season, all of your friends are rooting for the same team, the USA! so it’s the perfect excuse to throw a party for everyone to show their american spirit and for you to show your amazing party-planning skills. which you can flaunt with some of these adorable olympic theme decorations and food ideas. go invite your friends, turn on NBC, and cheer for our awesome american olympians! but please girls, remember i called dibs on mr. lochte : )

olympic torch cupcakes

ticket-style invitations!

olympic ring doughnuts… just buy regular glazed doughnuts and top with colored sprinkles

olympic torch popcorn bags

gold medal cookies

international flag cookies (or only make US ones : )

swimming pool cake

add lifesavers as “olympic rings” to any drink. so so cute!

and just a little something extra : )

cora loves: pree brulee jewelry

Like most girls, I’m a sucker for pretty jewelry. I have way too much already (says my best guy friend although girls, you know you can never have too much) but I just can’t resist those sparkly rings and bracelets. Unfortunately, my college-girl budget does not support my obsession so I usually settle for some good old-fashioned window shopping.  During last week’s browsing sesh, I came across Pree Brulee and absolutely fell in love with their pieces. They are unique and beautiful and best of all, very reasonably priced : ) I love the bohemian vibe of their stuff.

Check out some of my favorite pieces below:

And another cool part about Pree Brulee? They sell more than just jewelry! Here are some other little things I like:

Definitely head over to their site www.preebrulee.com and “window shop”. Which, in my case, means spending most of my recent paycheck on pretty earrings that I probably don’t need. But hey, a girl always needs another pair of sparkly turquoise earrings!
